
Background
Mark David Brown, MD, PhD, is a professor at the University of Miami. During the course of his academic orthopedic surgery career, he authored many professional papers and several books. He serves as a Consultant Reviewer for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Board of Associate Editors Emeritus of Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research. Dr. Brown’s experience in researching, organizing, and writing these pieces, one of which was award winning —“Conquer Back and Neck Pain”—gave him the unique experience to collage, organize, and weave the first-person experiences of Roy, Carmela and their family memories into a historical biography, “Roy and Carmela: A World War II Love Story”.
After over forty-five years of clinical practice Dr. Mark David Brown no longer performs surgery or sees patients. However, he does continue to serve as an active Professor, Chairman Emeritus at the University of Miami Department of Orthopedics and Director of Miami Center for Orthopedic Research and Education (Miami CORE). Duties as Director of Miami CORE include fundraising and managing clinical and basic musculoskeletal research. Also, he serves as director of the Mark David Brown U Miami Continuing Medical Education accredited Orthopedic Grand Rounds Lecture Series.
Continued Research Interests
He is a founding member of the International Society for the Study of Lumbar Spine and wrote Intradiscal Therapy in 1983. He is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, American Orthopedic Association, Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons, and Cervical Spine Research Society. His continued research interests center on degenerative diseases of the spine; including, back pain, disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis and mechanical instability of the spine.

Dr. Mark David Brown resides in Coral Gables, Florida. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, taking walks with his wife and traveling.
